Sunday School

Sunday School enhances faith development through the use of a variety of activities.  Sunday school classes are held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Sunday School and Worship are separately scheduled to enable children and adults to attend both.

All staff and teachers have undergone background checks and have attended Safeguarding Our Children (SOC) classes.

During mid-June to mid-September, Summer Sunday School continues to foster the faith formation of children, youth and adults.

The Summer Sunday School offers combined like-age classes which are generally grouped as follows:

  Ages 0 – 3 Nursery
  Ages 4 – 9 Early Elementary
  Ages 10 – 13 Intermediate
  Ages 14 – 18 High School
Ages 19 and up Adult Leaders/Adult Class

These sessions are informal in nature. The youth engage in activities such as Bible stories, prayer, crafts, play and special projects while the high school students and adults explore current topics and where they see God in their everyday lives.

Each year’s format and specific meeting rooms for classes are announced in the church’s newsletter and at the Sunday School transition event offered late May to early June. Classes continue to meet during the established Sunday School hour from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.

For more information or to serve, please contact the Coordinator of Outreach and Christian Education, Katherine Wolfe, at 755-5007 or at advent@comcast.net or you may see Pastor Brenda Ritterpusch.

The congregation is committed to providing a safe, caring, Christ-centered environment for children and youth. All who work and volunteer with them must have background criminal clearances and participate in an educational program which discusses a broad scope of strategies for the safety and protection of children.

In order to volunteer with children or youth of the congregation, individuals are required to be members of Advent for a minimum of 6 months and must have completed criminal background and child abuse history clearances.

Clearance forms can be obtained from the church office and include the Federal Criminal History Record (Act 114) and the Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)

A “Safeguarding our Children” training program is offered in the Fall. The class lasts approximately 2 hours and it includes video instruction as well as class discussion. If you are interested in volunteering with children, please contact the Director of Outreach and Christian Education or one of the pastors.
